Lyons Press Goes to the Dogs

jay-kopelman.jpgReaders with long memories might recall, among my favorite galleys from BookExpo America, From Baghdad, With Love, United States Marine Corps officer Jay Kopelman’s memoir of how he adopted a stray puppy named Lava a platoon found in the battlefields of Iraq and managed to cut through all the rules and red tape in order to bring him home. Apparently I wasn’t the only one who loved it, because PW Daily reports today that Lyons Press is preparing a 100,000-copy first printing, the biggest run in the history of the small press, an imprint of Globe Pequot. Kopelman will also go on a 14-city tour and perform in other national publicity events. The article mentions “press hits on mediabistro and in USA Today;” wonder if this means I’m going to get blurbed saying “I came pretty close to crying at a couple scenes with Lava (and probably would’ve if I hadn’t been on public transportation).” I think I can live with that.
