Librarians Report on eBook Circulation

By Dianna Dilworth

While some  librarians fear the digital publishing age, eBooks do not have to be a threat for libraries. In fact, it is probably the librarians who are best suited to helping teach readers how to use eReaders and how to check eBooks out from the library.

In fact, according to a new report from ebrary, a company that tracks eBooks in libraries, 92 percent of librarians find giving offline access to eBooks more or equally important than providing online access.

eBookNewser has more about the study: “The report, which surveyed primarily academic librarians in March of 2011, also found that most libraries check out eBooks for an average of 8 days with 4-5 titles being the maximum number of loans available at one time.”
