Lesson Learned is my Book of Color Pick of the Day (Kimani Tru). Written by author Earl Sewell, this book was written primarily for African American teens thirsting for a story with a little edge, but still safe for an open-minded adult to pass along to them.

It tells the tale of Keysha and her drama, drama, drama. First, her mother, who recently came out of jail by the way, tries to get back into her life; never mind the fact that she abandoned Keysha when she was younger. Then, her little brother is trying to get mixed up with a girl Keysha knows is no good. And on top of all that, Keysha is just trying get her normal teenage life straightened out.

We need more books like this that are edgy and real and fun for teens of all colors to read.
