Krysten RitterNetflix plans to create a new original series starring the Marvel character Jessica Jones. Breaking Bad actress Krysten Ritter (pictured, via) has been hired to take on the titular role.

Here’s more from The Hollywood Reporter: “Ritter will play Jessica Jones, the cynical, sardonic and tough-as-nails, but innately cool and sexy, title character. Jones is described as a superhero suffering with post-traumatic stress disorder that leads to her hanging up her costume and opening up her own detective agency, where she ends up helping people and assisting other superheroes.”

According to MTV.com, the company will also produce three additional series featuring Marvel superheroes: Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. Netflix has a track record for using books as inspiration for its original series projects. House of Cards debuted in February 2013, Orange Is the New Black came out in July 2013 and an adaptation of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events is currently being developed.
