Kidd on Kindle: This Changes Nothing

By Neal

Last week, a reader suggested to me that he “would love to see an interview with Chip Kidd in reference to [Amazon.com‘s] Kindle and the fate of book covers.” Great idea, I thought—too bad the design blog A Brief Message beat me to it by several days. “I’ve been asked to comment on what effect I think [the Kindle] will have, if any, on book design as we know it,” Kidd wrote last Wednesday. “Here goes. None.”

“The printed book as a piece of technology has yet to be improved upon,” the acclaimed graphic designer elaborates. “And won’t. Certainly not by something that looks like a prop from Charlie’s Angels and has, are you ready, a whopping ONE typeface. For everything! Yay!”
