Kickstarter Has Helped Generate $5.3B For Creators

Crowd funding site Kickstarter has helped generate more than $5.3 billion for creators and their communities, according to a new study.

The research, which was conducted by the University of Pennsylvania, studies how the company has impacted the creative economy in communities. According to the research, the site’s crowd funding has employed 283,000 part-time collaborators; created 8,800 new companies and nonprofits; and generated 29,600 full-time jobs.

The research also revealed that 37 percent of creators said that their Kickstarter project helped them advance their careers and 21 percent said that their annual earnings increased. Check it out:

  • Journalists reported that their Kickstarter project gave them freedom from the external control of editors and publishers, and helped them create work that served an underserved audience.
