Juan Felipe Herrera (GalleyCat)David Mao, the Acting Librarian of Congress, has decreed that Juan Felipe Herrera will stay on as the 21st Poet Laureate of the United States. The start date for Herrera’s second term has been scheduled for September 1.

Here’s more from the press release: “Details about his second-term project will be announced in late summer. Herrera’s historic first term was noteworthy for his online project, ‘La Casa de Colores,’ which is comprised of two initiatives: ‘La Familia,’ a submission-based epic poem asking for the participation of the general public, and ‘El Jardín,’ a series chronicling his experiences exploring and interacting with the Library’s resources and collections.”

Other poet laureates who served for more than one term include Natasha Trethewey, Kay Ryan, and Billy Collins. To check out some of Herrara’s poems, visit the Poetry Foundation website.
