Joe Paterno Book Couldn’t Come At A Worse Time

Joe Posnanski‘s new book on the late Penn State coach Joe Paterno could not be coming at a worse time.

The Simon & Schuster book Paterno, which is slated for release in August, claims to get “inside the mind of one of America’s most brilliant and charismatic coaches.” Not exactly, the angle people want to read, at a time when Penn State is taking down a statue of the once revered coach whose legacy is tainted by the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse scandal.

The New York Times has more about how the publisher is handling the publicity of the book: “Simon & Schuster is limiting interviews with Mr. Posnanski and scaling back a planned book tour. Anne Tate, a spokeswoman for the publisher, said in an e-mail, ‘We’re sensitive about putting our author in forums where he might be viewed as a stand-in for his subject.'”
