Charlie Rose interviewed Amazon chief Jeff Bezos on 60 Minutes last night and challenged the mogul about Amazon’s power over smaller players in the book industry. Bezos defended his position saying, “You gotta earn your keep in this world. When you invent something new, if customers come to the party, it’s disruptive to the old way.”
Rose pressed Bezos about Amazon’s power to drive others out of business. To which Bezos replied, “The Internet is disrupting every media industry, Charlie, you know, people can complain about that, but complaining is not a strategy. And Amazon is not happening to book selling, the future is happening to book selling.”
During the interview, Bezos also revealed that Amazon will begin using drones to test same-day delivery. The machines are called “octocopters.” “These are effectively drones but there’s no reason that they can’t be used as delivery vehicles,” Bezos explained to Rose.
