Fifty Shades Darker Book Cover (GalleyCat)James Foley may take the helm on the Fifth Shades Darker film adaptation. In the past, Foley has served as a director on a variety of projects including 12 episodes of House of Cards on Netflix.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the executives at Universal Pictures currently view Foley as the frontrunner for this job. The movie studio has been on the search for a new director after Sam Taylor-Johnson, the director of the first film, announced that she would not return for the sequel films.

Here’s more from Variety: “Production will begin in the first quarter of 2016, with the film set to bow on Feb. 14, 2017, so Foley will have time to assess the script and form his strategy. Casting should get under way once Foley’s deal is worked out, but sources add the process will be straightforward since the leads are already in place.” Click here to watch a Fifty Shades Darker teaser video.
