James Arthur Ray Found Guilty of Negligent Homicide

A jury convicted self-help author James Arthur Ray yesterday on three counts of negligent homicide. The charges stemmed from a sweat lodge ceremony Ray (pictured, via) hosted as part of a Spiritual Warrior seminar in 2009–three people died during the proceedings.

Here’s more from NPR: “He faces a sentence ranging from probation to nearly 12 years in prison. Ray fought back emotion as the verdict was read. His parents and brother sat behind him, while victims’ friends and family members held hands and looked on from across the courtroom.”

Ray has posted blog updates about the trial on his website all year. Most recently, one of his producers posted a long essay about the court proceedings entitled “Heat stroke did not cause sweat lodge deaths.”
