Flying cars, robots, underwater living and moving sidewalks are some of the things that author Isaac Asimov predicted would exist in the year 2014 back in 1964. Mental Floss.com has created a list of twelve of these imagined futures.
He also expected that life expectancy would surpass 85 in some parts of the world. Asimov also imagined that the corridor between Washington DC and Boston would become one giant city. In addition, he predicted that automation would take over most human jobs.
Sadly, he imagined that life in 2014 would be incredibly boring. Mental Floss.com quoted Asimov as saying: “Mankind will suffer badly from the disease of boredom, a disease spreading more widely each year and growing in intensity. This will have serious mental, emotional and sociological consequences, and I dare say that psychiatry will be far and away the most important medical specialty in 2014. The lucky few who can be involved in creative work of any sort will be the true elite of mankind, for they alone will do more than serve a machine.”
