Is Literary Talent Genetic?

By Jason Boog

Were your parents writers? Will your children grow up to be writers? Generations of famous authors have produced more writers, raising the question–is literary talent genetic?

Flavorwire examined 10 Literary Family Dynasties earlier this month, looking at writing careers passed down between everybody from  John, Benjamin, and Susan Cheever to the Tolkiens. What do you think–coincidence or inheritance?

Here’s more from the post: “We’ve recently seen the power of artistic genetics with the release of Sophie Crumb’s first book (edited by her father Robert, no less), but it seems that literary DNA is particularly potent. With the holiday season now upon us — and with it, inevitable reunions with close family and distant relatives alike — here’s a toast to ten families for whom writing is part of the inherited legacy.”
