bree.pngIrish author Bree O’Mara was among the 103 victims of the Libyan plane crash yesterday. According to the Guardian, she was on her way to complete a book deal for her second novel.

O’Mara (pictured, via) was born in South Africa, but her parents were both Irish. Her first book, Home Affairs, looked at “a quirky cast of uniquely South African characters engages in a bitter struggle between progress and self-preservation in the New South Africa. Her new novel, Nigel Watson, Superhero, was about “A new novel about turning thirty, hating your job, and finding your wings.”

Here’s more from the author’s biography: “I was forever creating ‘books’ as a child (with hand-drawn covers and bound with staples) and foisting them on people, and in primary school one of my teachers wrote on my report card that my tongue would either get me ‘published or hanged.'”
