Innovative Library Design Will Create ‘Community Living Room’

By Jason Boog

Stewart Hollenstein architects Felicity Stewart and Matthias Hollenstein won a contract to create a $40 million library and plaza in Sydney–building a garden, music practice and even water games into the library experience.

The video embedded above outlines the whole project, turning the layered library building into a “community living room.” What do you think? Here’s more from The Sydney Morning Herald:

The below-ground vision will include garden storytelling, rolling hills and a sunken garden for reading and relaxing. It features an amphitheatre, water play area and music rooms where residents can practise on their instruments without disturbing neighbours. The space will host impromptu concerts, as well as movies and festivals.
