Indie Bookseller Launches Against Amazon Blog

By Jason Boog

Jeff Waxman from Chicago’s indie bookstore, 57th Street Books, has launched a Tumblr account called Against Amazon.

MobyLives has more details: “[It is] is billed as ‘An online archive to educate consumers about the problems and politics of doing business with the beast.’ [Waxman] tells MobyLives that the blog is a ‘collaborative project’ that has issued an open call for submissions to the archive at againstamazonATgmail.com.”

The post also notes that Waxman is a judge at the Best Translated Book Awards, an Amazon-sponsored prize. Melville House publisher and MobyLives blogger Dennis Johnson withdrew from future participation in the award once the Amazon sponsorship was announced. Waxman posted a follow-up essay here.
