Today a Reddit user spotted a Facebook page that will make GalleyCat readers shiver. As of this writing, more than 438,700 Facebook users have clicked ‘like’ on the “I Hate Reading” page on Facebook.

That’s not all. So far, 271,471 Facebook users have clicked ‘like’ on the “I Hate Books” page. If you want to feel depressed, explore the long, long list of Facebook pages that have some variation of the “I Hate Reading” title. Or check out the equally long list of other Facebook pages with “I Hate Books” in the title.

What do you think? One Reddit reader wrote: “Once you weed out the schoolkids who clicked on that because they want to be the original rebel and tell the world that they don’t like studying, there will probably be all of five people left who genuinely hate reading. I can live with that.” Another reader added: “It is a sign of the times … It seems most parents don’t read to their kids anymore.”

UPDATE: Reader Rachel Fershleiser clarified how the page earned its Facebook likes: “It’s not that people go “like” that page. It’s an aggregate of anyone who wrote that under ‘favorite books.'”

Oddly enough, since we first published this post, nearly 1,000 people have clicked like on the controversial page.
