iphone3gs1.jpgThe future of digital reading devices hinges on young students. Whatever machine they prefer to use for e-textbooks could determine a large share of the textbook market.

According to PC World, 34 percent of college students have chosen portable netbooks over Mac and Windows laptops. At least for now, portable and affordable netbooks have captured the hearts and minds of this coveted readership. On September 7, Apple Inc. (AAPL) will host a keynote presentation where some expect the company to unveil a larger Apple tablet-like device to compete with both the Amazon.com’s (AMZN) Kindle and netbooks. As MobileContentToday noted, it will be a key moment for Apple’s relationship with student users.

Here’s more from the article: “While 49 percent of students will buy full-sized Windows laptops, 34 percent will purchase netbooks. Bringing up the rear is Mac with only 17 percent of students saying they intend to buy one, the study shows.”
