How Well Do You Know Literary Pets?

Illustrator Chet Phillips created a quiz to test your knowledge of literary pets.

The quiz promotes Phillips’ two card collections from the “Literary Pets” series. Each card holds a portrait of a famous literary titan morphed into cat or dog form. Just look at J.R.R. Tolkien’s canine transformation (embedded above) into G.R.R. Tolkien. One quiz question asks “What author was famed for creating the epic struggle between Captain A. Lab and ‘Moby Poodle,’ the great white lap dog?” This question requires a two-part answer.

Last week, Ernest Hemingway’s Papa Funny persona asked GalleyCat, “do you have six toes?” in reference to Hemingway’s six-toed pet. According to the Hemingway Home website, Hemingway was first given a six-toed cat by a ship’s captain. He grew fond of these creatures and now “polytactyls” (as they are formally known) are sometimes referred to as “Hemingway cats.”
