Lafayette in the Somewhat United StatesA group of high profile actors joined author Sarah Vowell to record the Lafayette in the Somewhat United States audiobook. The cast includes John Slattery, Nick Offerman, Fred Armisen, Bobby Cannavale, John Hodgman, and Patton Oswalt.

Slattery plays the Marquis de Lafayette, Offerman plays George Washington, Armisen plays Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben, Cannavale plays Benjamin Franklin, Hodgman plays John Adams, and Oswalt plays Thomas Jefferson. Simon & Schuster Audio will release this title on Oct 20.

Vowell had this statement in the press release: “My initial impulse to use actors on my audiobooks came when it dawned on me how long an audiobook can be–seven hours or more. At first, I just wanted other voices to provide the listener with a break from mine. Then I simply enjoyed the process of talking to the actors about their characters and hearing the voices of men and women who had been dead for decades if not centuries.”
