Herman Melville’s Moby Dick Annotated on Kickstarter

By Maryann Yin

Chris Routledge hopes to raise £7,100 (approximately $11,100) on Kickstarter to publish a beautiful annotated edition of Herman Melville’s classic novel, Moby Dick.

We’ve embedded a video about the project above–what do you think? Routledge wants to publish hard copies of this book in time for a marathon reading event at the UK’s Merseyside Maritime Museum. The event is scheduled to take place from May 4-6, 2013.

Here’s more about the project: “I am working with Margaret Guroff, the editor of the excellent Power Moby-Dick edition to bring her brilliant web resource to print, including not only its extensive annotations, but also historic illustrations of whales and whaling. The book will be produced in paperback and a beautiful limited-edition hardback, both featuring a cover design you see previewed here, created by Robyn Ng. These books will make a great gift.”

If you want to check out the un-annotated version of the book, you can download a free eBook edition or a free audiobook copy of the novel.
