Helena Bonham Carter will serve as a producer and actor for the Saint Mazie miniseries. She will take on the titular role of Mazie Gordon-Phillips.
According to Variety, the story for this project, which stars a real historical figure, comes from Jami Attenberg’s 2015 novel. Clara Brennan has been tasked with adapting the book into a script.
Here’s more from Deadline: “Mazie spent her days selling tickets at a cinema which she eventually inherited, and in her spare time she walked the streets of New York, giving the homeless soap and sips of liquor from her flask. Far from the normal picture of a saint she was foul-mouthed, free-spirited and drank her way through Prohibition. But in her own very quiet way she became a local hero.” (via Yahoo!)
