HBO May Develop Adaptation of ‘The Carrie Diaries’

Sex and the City may be returning to television. Rumors have surfaced that HBO may develop an adaptation based on the series’ prequel, The Carrie Diaries.

Bushnell’s Sex and the City into a hugely popular series, HBO has the rights to The Carrie Diaries, a young-adult novel that chronicles Carrie’s senior year of high school in a small New England town. But since the book is much younger skewing than HBO’s audience, the pay cable network had been seeking another outlet for the potential series.”

So far, neither Darren Star (the creator of the Sex and the City HBO series), nor actress Sarah Jessica Parker (who starred as Carrie Bradshaw) have signed on to the project. According to Entertainment WeeklyJosh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage may produce the show. They served as executive producers on the CW Network’s Gossip Girl series, and the rumors point to the network as the top contender for The Carrie Diaries. (Via The Gothamist)
