Harry Potter Reader in Aleppo Goes Quiet

A young Syrian reader named Bana Alabed who recently received a Harry Potter e-book from JK Rowling herself, and whose house was bombed last week, has gone quiet on Twitter.

Her account, which she and her mother used to tweet reports from the war, was deleted on Sunday, as troops descended on the city. “We are sure the army is capturing us now. We will see each other another day dear world. Bye. – Fatemah,” read the final tweet, according to a report from BBC.

The girl’s mother recently messaged JK Rowling on Twitter and asked how she could get copies of Harry Potter books to help her daughter keep her mind off of the war outside of her home. JK Rowling sent an e-book to the seven-year-old child.

Last week, her mother tweeted that their home was bombed: “Tonight we have no house, it’s bombed & I got in rubble. I saw deaths and I almost died.”
