Harper’s Magazine Editor Departs

2010-02.jpgHarper’s Magazine editor Roger D. Hodge will be leaving next week. According to an anonymous source in a NY Times report, Hodge was pushed out of the literary magazine.

Here’s an excerpt from the article: “However, a person at the magazine with knowledge of the situation, who asked not to be identified because they were not authorized to discuss the matter, said that was not the case. Mr. Hodge had been dismissed Monday evening, this person said … Mr. Hodge was not given a specific reason for his dismissal, this person said, just the general weakness of the magazine’s newsstand sales and circulation figures.”

Despite its circulation, Harper’s is major outlet for literary folk around the country–publishing fiction, long form reporting, and a flourishing book review section. Last year, GalleyCat interviewed the magazine’s “New Books” columnist, author Benjamin Moser. Via (Maud Newton)
