Neverending Story Google Doodle (GalleyCat)

Google has created a Doodle to celebrate the 37th anniversary of the publication of The Neverending Story. Michael Ende’s children’s fantasy novel was first published in Germany back in 1979. The English translation followed in 1983.

Here’s more from the Google Doodle webpage: “Bastian is tapped by a hunter named Atreyu to help save the enchanted but ill-omened world of Fantastica by doing something only a human can do: giving Fantastica’s ruler, the Childlike Empress, a new name. Their companion, Falkor, a luckdragon, remains ever-optimistic that they’ll prevail over wicked creatures and destructive forces to reach the Childlike Empress’s Ivory Tower. In time, Bastian’s journey becomes one of self discovery, in which the words “Do what thou wilt!” inscribed on Atreyu’s talisman, take on personal meaning.”

In the past, Google has crafted Doodles to honor children’s books creators including Anne of Green Gables series author Lucy Maud Montgomery, Little House series author Laura Ingalls Wilder, and Where the Wild Things Are creator Maurice Sendak, and more. Here’s a video from Google headquarters spotlighting the artists behind the doodles. Which authors or books would you suggest as future Doodle subjects? (via The Telegraph)
