Director David Fincher and author Gillian Flynn spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the adaptation process. Fincher, who also directed the American version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo movie, did not want to feel “too beholden to the source material.”

In a surprising turn of events, Flynn had deliberately changed the ending of her book for Fincher’s movie. She explained: “There was something thrilling about taking this piece of work that I’d spent about two years painstakingly putting together with all its eight million LEGO pieces and take a hammer to it and bash it apart and reassemble it into a movie” (via The Guardian)
