German Authorities Investigate New Edition of ‘Mein Kampf’

German prosecutors are investigating Leipzig-based publisher Verlag Der Schelm’s plans to publish a new edition of Hitler’s “Mein Kampf” without critical notes.

The book’s copyright expired this year, which is allowing the publication of the book, which had been banned for 70 years to resurface. However, prosecutors argue that publishing a new volume without critical notes and context could break the law against spreading Nazi propaganda. Reuters has the scoop:

Publishing the text without critical notes could be considered tantamount to disseminating Nazi propaganda, which is outlawed in Germany. The public prosecutor’s office in Bamberg in Bavaria was checking whether charges could be brought on grounds of incitement, news agency DPA reported.
