New Super-Man (GalleyCat)DC Comics has announced plans for the New Super-Man series. This project will be part of the publisher’s DC Rebirth initiative.

The first issue, slated for release on July 13, will introduce a Chinese superhero named Kenan Kong. Gene Luen Yang wrote the story and Viktor Bogdanovic created the artwork. Yang wrote a guest post for the DC Comics blog and discussed the process for figuring out this character’s name.

Here’s an excerpt from Yang’s piece: “New Super-Man’s official secret identity will be: 孔克南 Kenan Kong. 南 Nan means ‘south.’ Appropriate for a kid from Shanghai, since folks from Beijing like to call folks from Shanghai ‘Southerners.’ 克 Ke means ‘to overcome.’ What could be more Super-Man than ‘to overcome?'”
