Gary Ross in the Talks to be Director for the ‘Hunger Games’ Film

book 1 collins.JPGA month has passed since the release of Suzanne Collins’ Mockingjay and fans can still be found debating over the trilogy’s ending, the epilogue, and the movie development. At the moment, directors being considered include Sam Mendes (Revolutionary Road), David Slade (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse), and Susanna White (Nanny McPhee Returns) with Gary Ross (Seabiscuit) rumored as the lead contender of the pack. Collins personally adapted the novel for the initial screenplay with collaborating screenwriter Billy Ray (State of Play) on staff to revise it. It was announced in March 2009 that Lionsgate Entertainment had purchased the film rights to book one in the trilogy.

Entertainment Weekly hosted a casting poll asking fans for their opinions on who should play Katniss Everdeen. Harry Potter‘s Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) received 13.09% votes putting her in fourth place. Vampire Diaries actress Nina Dobrev (Elena Gilbert) also has experience with fantasy genre acting, but came in at fifth with 8.64% of the votes. British actress Kaya Scodelario won over the crowd garnering 39.36% of the votes.

Before book three’s release, actress Kristen Bell tweeted: “not just ‘a’ hunger games fan. THE hunger games fan. read both books twice & am silently salivating for the 3rd.” She gets this GalleyCat Correspondent’s vote to play Katniss and Peeta’s Games escort, Effie Trinket.
