Gaia Vince Wins Royal Society Winton Prize for Science Books

Journalist Gaia Vince has won the 2015 Royal Society Winton Prize for Science Books for her book Adventures in the Anthropocene.

The prize celebrates science writing for a non-specialist audience. Vince is the first female to win the prize on her own in the prize’s 28-year history. Here is more from the prize’s website:

Chair of judges Professor Ian Stewart FRS described the book as ‘ambitious and essential’, while fellow judge and novelist Sarah Waters called it ‘an inspiring testament to human ingenuity’.

The winner was announced by Professor Brian Cox at the award ceremony on 24 September.

Vince takes home a £25,000 (approximately $38,000). The other shortlisted authors will receive £2,500 (approximately $3800) each.
