Free Nook Color App Helps Kids Publish

By Dianna Dilworth

This week Barnes & Noble released a free Nook Color app for its children’s online book community Tikatok.com. The app lets kids create and publish their own eBooks on the Nook Color, potentially creating a whole generation of kids who grow up with the idea that books are written on devices, for devices.

Using the app, young writers can create stories on the Nook Color and submit them to be published into hard, softcover or eBooks. The app includes an art gallery, decorative backgrounds and book titles for kids to use as kindling for their ideas. The app also lets kids read books by other kids.

As part of the launch, Tikatok is running a writing contest for 6-14 year olds. “The Tikatok Summer of Imagination Writing Contest” encourages kids to enter their books for the chance to win gift cards or the opportunity to meet with Peter Lerangis, author of The 39 Clues,  in New York City.
