Frankfurt Book Fair Director on Digital Readers

By Jason Boog

Frankfurtfari.jpgAs the Frankfurt Book Fair opened this week, eBooks loomed over the proceedings–even the festival director threw his hat into the Amazon Kindle versus Apple iPhone debate about the future of digital readers.

GalleyCat won’t attend this year, but Publishing Perspectives is covering the famous book fair this week, spotting director Juergen Boos’ tribute to Apple’s iPhone in his opening address. The article also recorded Boos’ thoughts about a Chinese literature controversy at the festival and the American publishing recession.

Here’s the juicy quote: “[Boos] asserts that the ‘Kindle is not the solution,’ adding ‘this is,’ while holding up his iPhone. He continues: ‘In the future, for some kinds of content, we may not have the book, but something digital that brings content from different sources you can sync up in one place where it is accessible to you digitally. Of course, there may be sources that we have not yet thought up.'”
