cover_toc.jpgWhile this GalleyCat editor has been depressed about missing the San Diego ComicCon, Vice Magazine‘s comic book-focused issue will make any recession-strapped convention absentee happy. The new issue features an interview with Chip Kidd about his “Bat-Manga!” book, comic-themed piece by the artist who designed Pee-wee’s Playhouse, and other unexpected goodies.

It also includes a totally NSFW look at the sadomasochistic later works of founding Superman artist Joe Shuster. The article gives readers a taste of Craig Yoe’s comic history book, “Secret Identity: The Fetish Art of Superman’s Co-Creator Joe Shuster.”

Here’s an excerpt: “Geez, all the crazy background I unearthed about Shuster’s pornography involvement with the Mob, a murder trial, showgirls, book-burning Supreme Court judges, a hell-bent, coonskin-capped senator, a poetry-spouting, songwriting defense lawyer, and horsewhipped-girls!”
