netflix logoNetflix will exclusively recruit female directors to take the helm on the second season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones series. Entertainment Weekly reports that Melissa Rosenberg, the creator and executive producer, recently announced the news at the Transforming Hollywood conference.

This show stars Krysten Ritter as the titular superheroRachael Taylor as Patricia “Trish” Walker, and Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth. At this point in time, Netflix has not revealed when the thirteen episodes of season two will be posted online.

Here’s more from Gizmodo: “Women made up about one-third of directors for Jessica Jones’ first season. That might not sound like a lot, but that’s almost twice the average. Last year, less than 18% of television episodes had female directors- with Jessica Jones being one of the more female-represented shows. Men (especially white men) still make up an overwhelming percentage of television show directors, with shows like Fargo, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Stranger Things not having any women or people of color behind the camera.” (via New York Magazine)
