If you enjoyed The Secret Life of Bees then you’ll likely love The Air Between Us. This is my Featured “Book of Color” Pick of the Day. Written by debut novelist, Deborah Johnson, this book is set in a small town in Mississippi during a time when segregation existed. Black people lived on one side of town and white people lived on the other.
This story is different because it also features well-to-do Black American characters as well as characters we typically see in films and books, such as the struggling Black American man.
Well-reviewed by Booklist, Publishers Weekly and The Washington Post, it would not surprise me if this book rocks its way all the way to the top.
