Fathers in the U.K. Aren’t Reading Enough to Kids: Study

By Dianna Dilworth

dadsreadingMothers in the U.K. read more to their children than fathers do, according to a new report from Book Trust. In fact, only 13 percent of Dads are the main reader to their kids.

According to the report, 42 percent of mothers read to babies under one, while only 29 percent of fathers do. In addition, 71 percent of mothers read to their three-year olds every day, whereas 62 percent of fathers do the same. By the age of five, the study revealed that 75 percent of mothers are reading to their kids daily and 60 percent of fathers are reading to them every day. A quarter of the fathers polled blamed working late for not reading to their kids daily.

To encourage Dads to get reading, Book Trust is launching a campaign to encourage fathers to get reading.
