Emma Watson Leaves Books For New York Subway Riders to Find

By Maryann Yin

Emma WatsonEmma Watson has been leaving copies of Dr. Maya Angelou’s Mom & Me & Mom in New York City’s subway stations. Back in October 2016, she chose this Angelou title as the November/December 2016 read for the Our Shared Shelf feminist book club.

Here’s more from USA Today: “Watson, aka Hermione Granger from Harry Potter, aka the founder of feminist book club Our Shared Self, aka United Nations Women Global Goodwill Ambassador, aka the face of HeForShe, aka the new Belle from live-action Beauty and the Beast, aka all-around-delightful Brit, decided she would spread some positivity the day after Election Day. Watson left Maya Angelou books in a New York subway, and tweeted about her determination to keep fighting for women’s rights.”

According to The Huffington Post, Watson began her career as a “book fairy” by taking part in the Books On The Underground movement. She dropped off copies of Mom & Me & Mom throughout the London Tube. Below, we’ve collected several messages from Watson’s Twitter page in a Storify post. (via Time Out New York)
