Emily Mortimer has signed on for a role in the Mary Poppins Returns film adaptation. She joins a cast that includes Emily Blunt as the titular protagonist, Lin Manuel-Miranda as a lamplighter named Jack, and Meryl Streep as Mary Poppins’ cousin Topsy.
Here’s more from Variety: “Mortimer will play Jane Banks, who along with her brother Michael (who will be played by Ben Whishaw in the pic), was one of the children the magical titular nanny looked after in the original 1964 film, and is now all-grown-up in this installment. The movie is set 25 years after the original.”
Entertainment Weekly reports that Rob Marshall will serve as the director of this project. David Magee, the screenwriter, drew inspiration for the screenplay from the stories of P.L. Travers’ classic children’s books series. This movie will hit theaters on December 25, 2018. (via Slash Film)
