eBook Raises Funds for Afghan Women’s Writing Project

By Jason Boog

Afghan Women’s Writing Project (AWWP) founder Masha Hamilton has found a way to support her organization and her new novel. For every digital book copy of What Changes Everything sold, Unbridled Books will donate $1 to her nonprofit.

Founded in 2009, the AWWP “works to nurture and support the voices of Afghan women, who traditionally have not had any outlet for sharing their powerful, often heart-breaking stories and their compelling voices.” Hamilton’s novel shares stories set both in Afghanistan and Brooklyn, bridging our worlds. Here’s more about the book:

After Todd Barbery, director of a humanitarian organization working with refugees, is assaulted and kidnapped on the streets of Kabul, Afghanistan nothing remains the same. How could it? … What Changes Everything also tells another story: the true story of Mohammad Najibullah, the last president of Afghanistan during the Communist era, whose fall from power was made final by the arrival of the Taliban. The letters in this novel from Najibullah to his three daughters are imagined, but the author had the privilege of lengthy exchanges with one of them, who shared recollections of her father—and a poem her mother had written about him.
