Eat, Pray, Cancellation

9780143038412H.jpgNews broke today that Michael Cooper–the writer Elizabeth Gilbert divorced at the beginning of her bestselling Eat, Pray, Love–will not publish his own memoir with Hyperion.

Hyperion confirmed the cancellation with Page Six. Cooper is currently seeking other publishers for his manuscript, entitled Displaced. We wrote about the deal last year–Cooper hoped to tell the other side of the story in his own memoir.

Here’s more from the article: “Cooper told Page Six he finished the manuscript, but parted ways because of Hyperion’s ‘eleventh-hour demands’ to make it more racy. ‘I set out to write about how, in the wake of a devastating and unexpected divorce, I slowly rebuilt my life by redoubling my already decades-long commitment to humanitarian relief and human rights work. In the end, it seemed to me that Hyperion hoped to push the book in a more controversial direction.'” (Via Publishers Weekly)
