Doodling: The Next Big Thing in Book Covers?

Here’s an interesting trend in book jacket design—making it look like somebody has doodled all over the cover, as if it were a high school notebook, or a bored office worker’s legal pad. (These little versions don’t quite do the covers justice, especially the one to Joe Dunthorne‘s Submarine; take a closer look.)

If Rivka Galchen‘s Atmospheric Disturbances sounds familiar, you’ve probably already seen her profile in this week’s Observer. If that got you curious, you should come to the Mercantile Library tonight, where she’s taking part in the Beatrice.com reading series with Cathleen Schine starting at 7 p.m. I know some of you will probably want to catch a rare East Coast glimpse of litblogger Mark Sarvas at the Greenwich Village B&N, but if you can make it, we’ll look forward to seeing you!
