Do We Need a Dropbox-Style Tool for eBooks?

By Jason Boog

Ownshelf is a new online storage system aimed helping readers share free eBooks–is this a good idea or publishing’s worst nightmare?

AppNewser has all the details:

To help facilitate eBook sharing of public domain and non-copyrighted titles, Ownshelf has launched a service that works like Dropbox for eBooks. It’s also got Facebook sharing features to make it that much easier to share good reads. To use Ownshelf, you can upload your DRM-free eBooks to your account and create a bookshelf that you can share with your friends. Your friends can browse your shelves and vice versa to look for books. Once you find one you like, you can download their copy. We only recommend using this for public domain books and books in which the authors encourage sharing.
