David McCullough Praises Libraries

By Maryann Yin

What kind of impact have libraries made in your life? Author David McCullough has shot a video praising libraries.

In the video embedded above, McCullough talks about how these institutions are “essentials” for his working life. The piece has drawn more than 1,300 views on YouTube.

Two writers, Judy Blume and Junot Díaz, have recently served as advocates for the New York Public Library. Back in 2013, Neil Gaiman delivered The Reading Agency annual lecture and focused his talk on “why our future depends on libraries, reading and daydreaming”; The Guardian has posted the full speech.
