Dave Eggers’ Group Auctions 37 Picture Book Artists’ Pieces for Charity

The Dave Eggers-founded nonprofit 826LA launched an auction this summer to raise money for the Los Angeles-based writing and literacy center for children. Entitled The Eyewitness Reports, the collection featured art directly inspired by the picture book, OH NO! (Or How My Science Project Destroyed the World). The book was written by Mac Burnett and illustrated by Dan Santat. The show’s trailer is embedded above.

In August, the Nucleus Gallery hosted an art show with the 37 pieces and two eBay auctions sold the pieces. Winning bidders received the art piece, an official police report filled out by the piece’s corresponding artist, a copy of OH NO! signed by Barnett and Santat, and a limited edition print.

826LA serves children ages 6-18. At the center, children learn to improve their technical writing skills and explore their creative side. Back in 2008, the charity held a benefit comedy show featuring Janeane Garofalo, Patton Oswalt, and Jimmy Pardo. (Via Huffington Post)
