Crowdsourced War Memoir on Kickstarter

By Maryann Yin

Writer Mike Nemeth has raised more than $5,100 on Kickstarter for Six Word War. This nonfiction collection features six-word memoir stories from veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Nemeth has been crowdsourcing these stories and posting them on the “Six Word War” website. We’ve embedded a video about the project above. Here’s more about the project:

“Sometimes veterans have funny stories to tell and sometimes they’re tragic. Not every story on its own could justify an entire book, but that’s what we think is incredible about this project. Because collectively, the hundreds, hopefully thousands, of stories that we’re gathering tell the real story of Iraq and Afghanistan – a story that couldn’t possibly be told by one person.”
