Clifford the Big Red Dog: The Musical

By Maryann Yin

Clifford the Big Red Dog has been around for almost 50 years (that’s 350 in dog years). To celebrate, Scholastic has inked a deal with Mills Entertainment to adapt the series into a family musical.

Here’s more from the press release: “the show –currently planned to hit 60 markets– will celebrate the timeless values of Clifford’s ‘BIG Ideas’ with Clifford and his friends Emily Elizabeth, Cleo, and T-Bone embarking on all-new adventures.”

The anniversary has also spawned a new wave of Clifford products, including plushies, board games, puzzles, toothbrushes, scooters, and bikes. Author and cartoonist Norman Bridwell wrote Clifford the Big Red Dog in 1963. Bridwell’s dog has starred in more than 50 books, a television series, movies, and educational video games.
