Chuck Palahniuk’s New Short Story is Free on Playboy.com

By Dianna Dilworth

zombieFight Club author Chuck Palahniuk has a new short story available in the November issue of Playboy and it just went up on Playboy.com.

The story is called Zombie and despite the title from a writer is known to shock, the story is not about the dawn of the dead. With references to Devo in discussions of “de-evolution,” as well as reality television, it is the tale of a young man’s struggle with the Shakespearean question, ‘To be or not to be.” Without giving too much away, it’s not surprising to hear that the author said, “To date, it’s the only story I’ve written that’s made an audience weep instead of vomit.”

Here is an excerpt:

No offense to Jesus, but the meek won’t inherit the earth. To judge from reality TV the loudmouths will get their hands on everything. And I say, let them. The Kardashians and the Baldwins are like some invasive species. Like kudzu or zebra mussels. Let them battle over the control of the crappy real world.

The author’s latest novel Doomed, hit shelves last month.
