Century Pays Sky-High Advance for French Memoir

By Carmen

The numbers were climbing high last week but now that the dust has settled, Century emerged the winner for the right to publish Dawn French‘s memoirs – paying out an eye-popping 2 million pounds to do so. The Bookseller reports that Century landed the book, scheduled for launch in Autumn 2008 through agent Robert Kirby at PFD after French met with seven publishers, all offering at least 1.25m pounds. Century obviously has high hopes for the book, but they might just be warranted – after all, they published comedian Peter Kay‘s THE SOUND OF LAUGHTER, the best-selling memoir in the UK to date.
