Catching Up w/the Pre-BEA Party Scene

Just before we all got caught up in BEA madness, I dropped in on the Zach Feuer gallery in Chelsea to check in on the book party for Altared, a collection of wedding stories acquired for Vintage by ex-publicist Lisa Weinert (2nd from right) during her transition to the editorial side of the imprint. She posed with contributors Lori Leibovich, Elise Mac Adam, Curtis Sittenfeld, and (at far right) Farah Miller. I asked Weinert, who brought her fiancé to the party, if reading about her contributors’ experiences had affected her own wedding plans. “I’ve so thoroughly explored the topic that I’d like to put it to bed for a while,” she admitted. “Whatever we do will be small and intimate and very low-key.”

We can’t get out to every book party and literary event, but sometimes we’re able to bring you pictures after the fact. For example, we received this shot of Viking children’s book associate production editor Nico Medina celebrating Simon & Schuster‘s publication of his first YA book, The Straight Road to Kylie, in mid-May with his co-worker, assistant editor Kendra Levin. Bar 13 DJs played two straight hours of Kylie music in honor of the occasion, after which, no doubt they just couldn’t get the book out of their heads. And Jennifer Niesslein told us about her first New York Barnes & Noble reading for Practically Perfect in Every Way.
